PLENARY 1-A : NO FARMER, NO COCOA

TAKEAWAYS FROM THE FARMERS NETWORK FORUM

CAA will kick start the first plenary session with the insights gathered during the first-of-its-kind gathering the cocoa industry has seen: CAA International Farmers Network Forum

led by the Cocoa Association of Asia (CAA), this pre-conference session is the very first workshop forum that gathers farmers from different origins in the same room for a time of knowledge exchange on farming practices, efficiencies of training, nurturing communities, farm succession planning, and more.

Today’s market poses such a high threat to the sustainability of cocoa as we are constantly challenged by crop performance in major regions and issues on farmer livelihoods.

The cocoa industry has been under heavy scrutiny for its impact on the environment and the well-being of farmers and workers involved in the supply chain.

A simple truth of the matter is clear – No farmers, No Cocoa

PLENARY 1-B : THRIVING FARMERS

SUSTAINABILITY & PROFITABILITY

Talking about sustainability without factoring in profitability is idealistic. Moreover, with new regulations like the EU Deforestation Regulation, it becomes increasingly challenging for stakeholders and businesses to manage the supply chain while meeting high demand sustainably. How can we support farmers in continuing to produce and ensure a steady flow of chocolates both now and in the future while being compliant?

PLENARY 2 : WHAT IN THE COCOA WORLD IS GOING ON?!

GLOBAL MARKETS

Dubbed a cocoa catastrophe and the new bitcoin, today cocoa prices at the time of writing have soared a whooping 230% year on year with no end in sight. Experienced traders who have seen through the rise of political uprisings, energy shortages, and broken infrastructure have always churned the mantra cocoa always comes out – this time, however, the market sees this sentence differently.

Experts will discuss the intersection between macroeconomics and cocoa fundamentals with today’s market developments like the impact of macroeconomic factors, such as inflation and exchange rates on the cocoa industry, supply and demand dynamics, weather patterns, and global consumption patterns.

As prices continue to be fluid, the panel will touch upon subjects that have been coming to recent light; the importance of risk management and hedging to manage pricing volatilities, the rise of counterparty risks, and increased financing across the supply chain as prices print new highs and last but not least, EUDR.

Panelists will share their insights on how to navigate through this storm of factors that today affect us all globally.
